Diaper Leakage Tester: Specifications & Testing Principles

Time: Popularity:0times

The Diaper Leakage Tester is a specialized device designed to evaluate the anti-leakage performance of diapers under simulated real-world conditions. By applying controlled pressure and dynamic movements, it assesses how well diapers prevent liquid or solid waste from escaping, ensuring product quality and compliance with safety standards. Ideal for manufacturers of baby diapers, adult incontinence products, and sanitary pads, this equipment helps optimize material selection and design to enhance consumer trust.

Applicable Standards:

  • ASTM D6797: Standard Test Method for Bursting Strength of Diapers.
  • ISO 11948-1: Hygiene Products—Determination of Leakage Resistance.
  • GB/T 28004: Chinese National Standard for Baby Diaper Performance.
  • EDANA 40.3-90: European Disposables and Nonwovens Association Guideline for Leakage Testing.

Main Parameters (Table 1):

ParameterRange/Specification
Test Pressure0–50 kPa (adjustable)
Dynamic Angle0–45° (simulates baby movement)
Test Duration1–999 minutes (programmable)
Sample Dimensions300×450 mm (standard), customizable
Liquid Volume50–200 mL (synthetic urine)
Pressure Resolution±0.1 kPa
Power Supply

220V/50Hz or 110V/60Hz

Working Principle:
The tester simulates a baby’s movements by tilting the diaper-clad platform at a preset angle while applying controlled pressure to mimic sitting, crawling, or walking. A synthetic liquid (e.g., saline solution) is injected into the diaper’s core, and pressure sensors monitor leakage points at the seams, leg cuffs, and waistband. The system automatically stops and records data if leakage is detected.

Test Principle:
Leakage resistance is evaluated by:

  1. Pressure Application: A pneumatic cylinder applies uniform pressure (e.g., 10 kPa) to the diaper’s surface, simulating body weight.

  2. Dynamic Stress: The platform oscillates at 0.5 Hz to replicate motion, forcing liquid toward the diaper’s edges.

  3. Leakage Detection: Sensors at critical zones (leg openings, waist) trigger an alarm if liquid escapes. Leakage volume (V) is calculated as:

V=ρΔm

where Δm = mass loss (g) and ρ = liquid density (g/cm³).
4. Data Analysis: The machine generates a report with leakage time, location, and volume, enabling comparative analysis of material combinations (e.g., SAP content, core design).

Applications:

  • Quality Control: Verify batch consistency in diaper production lines.
  • R&D: Optimize absorbent core density and barrier cuff elasticity.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Demonstrate adherence to safety standards in audits.

By providing actionable insights into leakage risks, this tester helps manufacturers reduce product failures and enhance brand reputation in the competitive hygiene products market.
